Leadership

     I first began working with Island Garden Basketball back in the summer of 2024. I worked here to complete credit for my internship class required by my major. The was one of my first full time experiences in the sports field. This was a great opportunity and while working ther for an entire summer, I learned a lot through my great coworkers. They taught me the ins and outs of this business and I saw how they controlled many different situations.

     Shortly after completing this work experience, I was back at school for my junior year where I was invited to become and SPTE Mentor. After learning so much about the sports industry that entire summer, I had gained a lot of knowledge that I knew could be valuable to many of these incoming students. It was very rewarding hearing these new students who were trying to break into the workforce get interviews with professionals in the field as well as some of them even getting positions for the upcoming summer. 

     I am now currently back at Island Garden full time working as a League Operation Assistant. My responsibilities are to make sure that events we put on run smoothly whether that be through our normal league games or tournaments which are occasionally sponsored by the national AAU committee. Many things that have helped me in this position are being prepared and networking. We need to communicate with programs and their coaches to make sure they are available for the game slots we set up for them. This also helps us prepare for the days event before hand allowing us to be ready well in advance.

     Recently, I have taken up the role of training any new employees. We use various facilities across Long Island so we need people to oversee each sight during the days events. I have worked at all of these places multiple times over the years so anytime we bring someone new into the fold, I go with them during their first time. I give them the rundown on how we do things and what they need to know about the certain facility they are working at since they are all different. By learning from my bosses when I first started working here, my experience as a mentor at school and the time I have already spent with Island Garden, I have been successful at this and hope to continue to do this in the future.
